Srinagar: Police on Wednesday arrested a woman here for allegedly duping ATM users over the last few weeks.
Police apprehended the woman ATM fraudster who was active in Srinagar for the last few weeks and had duped many ATM users of their money, a police spokesman said here.
He said a woman lodged a complaint last evening that Rs 40,000 were fraudulently withdrawn from her ATM.
A case was registered and investigations were started, the spokesman said, adding the investigation utilised technical and other recourses and succeeded in zeroing in on the fraudster woman.
He said the lady used to exchange the ATM while offering help at the ATM kiosks in the city. She later used to withdraw money from the ATM’s.
She has been taken into custody and is being questioned for similar offences in other parts of the city, the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, police also arrested a burglar in Ganderbal District of central Kashmir, who had broken into a computer laboratory of a government school.
The spokesman said Principal Government Girls Higher Secondary School Nunnar Ganderbal lodged a complaint alleging that some unknown burglars had broke into the computer Lab of the institution by cutting the iron grills and stolen two computers along with its accessories, besides other articles worth about Rs 3.5 lakh.
A case was registered and investigation was taken up, the spokesman said.
He said the police managed to nab the culprit Showkat Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Saloora area of the district, involved in the burglary within few hours and all the stolen items were recovered from his residence.
