Will rescue every stranded person, promises Army Chief

Srinagar: Army Chief Dalbir Singh Suhag promised to rescue every stranded person from the flood-affected areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Will rescue every stranded person in J&K,” Suhag said as per a news agency and added, “Rescue operation is being carried through day and night.”

He also said that the Army was trying to restore road communication till Thursday and probably would be motorable for lighter vehicles.

The Army Chief told the media that food, water, medicines and blankets were being provided to the people and they had also been given satellite phones for use.

“We have enough boats. In the morning today total number of people evacuated was 49,832,” he further said.

Suhag was in the state capital to oversee the massive rescue exercise launched by the Army.

At the same time he expressed confidence that situation would improve ‘quite a lot’ a lot in two to three days.

“It (situation) is improving. Water level is receding. I was here three days back and from then to now the water level has come down four to five feet or six feet at some places. So things are improving,” he told reporters, as per PTI.

As per reports, so far, more than 9,500 persons have been rescued from Srinagar and 2,000 have been provided shelter in Badamibagh Cantonment.
