West Pakistan refugees highlight plights

VIJAYPUR: A monthly meeting of West Pakistan refugees was convened at Swankha Morh on Sunday under the leadership of Laba Ram Gandhi.
While addressing the people on the occasion, he said that the West Pakistan refugees were migrated during 1947 like other refugees from Chhamb, Bhimber and settled in Jammu and Kashmir as also throughout India. “Interestingly those who have been settled in other states of India have full fundamental rights of Indian Constitution and J and K also a State of India we have no right to cast our votes in Assembly elections” Gandhi said adding “we have been deprived of PRC rights and have been given treatment as foreigners”.
He also informed that those children who were born in the J and K, they have fundamental right of citizenship of the J and K and the Central Govt. as well as State Govt. have promised the West Pak refugees that the issues pertaining to PRC and benefits for permanent settlement like refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971 will be given to the West Pakistan refugees but after one year, Jammu and Kashmir Govt. has not given positive response.
