JAMMU: While reflecting his views on the role of a well-stocked library to the students of Grade XII, Principal JKPS Kunjwani, Rajesh Rathore shared, “Library is the sanctum sanctorum of every temple of learning. It’s the heart and soul of a school’s academic activities. A school library encourages curiosity, innovation and problem-solving. It is integral to the cultural and social life of the school. The school library is a central point for all kinds of reading, cultural activities, access to information, knowledge building, deep thinking and lively discussion”.
Further deliberation was put forth by the newly appointed librarian and she reflected, “The instructional programme of a school is tremendously influenced by the quality of its library. The teaching-learning process will be without sheen in the absence of a good resource centre. Library is indispensable for student-centric learning process. In case of science and technical subjects, it plays a pivotal role. A library provides stimulation and inspiration to both students and teachers, develops interest in subjects and widens the horizon of students. It is not only the nerve centre of academic learning but also a good place to spend one’s leisure-time. Books provide us with the best company when we are idle, lonely, free or bored”.
Expressing his intense desire to contribute to the discussion, Prableen Singh stated, “Reading a book is always the best way to expand the horizons of learning. Library bridges the gap between students’ desire to know and what they are taught in different subjects. Variety books on various subjects make the learning varied and lasting. Library gives students a chance to learn more and improve their confidence in dealing with their studies”.
“Studies can’t be bounded into limits and the thirst of reading more books should be there inside every kid. Commonly students try to skip their studies and give their time in playing games. Library balances this part by offering a source of knowledge. Books are the key to literacy and prepare the students for making a better life by acquiring skills set”, further added the librarian. Adding to the discussion, the Head Boy contributed, “The ambiance inside a library is so different from the other corner of the school that students in the early stage find it’s boring. But once they start reading books to meet their requirement, they develop interest in it. Silence inside the library helps a reader to study peacefully. Maintaining the ambiance is necessary for a few reasons. At first, it creates a reading atmosphere and secondly, it influences students to read a book by watching others”. Summing up the discussion, Principal stated, “Library opens the world of wisdom. Education is the only investment that gives returns throughout life. Reading biographies/autobiographies in the library adds to their wisdom which is not possible by simply reading text books. Students are the future of our nation and library helps them to equip for all the future needs. Students must enter the library with a desire to gain extra knowledge. They must carry with them a diary to jot down their choicest findings. Library is a silence zone and it must remain peaceful every moment”.
