We will take up proposal of restoration of historic Pather Masjid with ASI soon: Darakhshan

SRINAGAR: Chairperson of Jammu & Kashmir Waqf Board, Dr Syed Darakhshan Andrabi on Wednesday visited the historic Pather Masjid in old city Srinagar which is owned by Waqf Board and being a protected historic monument, is being looked after by Archeological Survey of India (ASI).
Andrabi became the first head of the Board who has visited the site to take stock of the things there.
She was warmly welcomed by local population there on her arrival.
She later held deliberations with the local society representatives too about the facilities for those who offer their prayers at the Masjid and also about the basic restoration needs so that this historic site remain safe. Dr Andrabi issued orders to the Waqf Board authorities for arranging new elegant matting of whole prayer area before Eid festival.
“We will take up the proposal of restoration of this historic Masjid with ASI soon. This monument is still a live prayer centre and I congratulate the local population for taking care of this protected site and keeping it tidy and clean. I am hopeful that the restoration of the site is allowed by the ASI as we are going to take up the proposal with them”, said Darakhshan.
Dr Andrabi was accompanied by Waqf Board officers and representatives of the concerned government departments.
