The India Meteorological Department predicts an above normal monsoon this year. But it is sad that even after 68 years of Independence, the country is still heavily dependent on the monsoon. It would be pertinent to observe that the BJP-led NDA government, in its previous term, had mooted the well-conceived proposal of interlinking of rivers. This is the right time for the BJP to revive the proposal and take it forward. It is a massive project and, understandably, a one-time
solution to the perennial water crisis enveloping the country. Rainwater harvesting must be also made mandatory.
