SRINAGAR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has caught one Mohd Maqbool Bhat, son of Ali Mohd Bhat, resident of HMT Srinagar, presently working as Ward Officer, Hawal, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), red handed while demanding Rs 50,000 as bribe and accepting Rs 20,000 as first installment.
As per an official spokesperson, the sleuths of ACB received a complaint wherein it was alleged that Ward Officer, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Hawal was demanding Rs 50,000 as bribe for allowing construction in favour of complainant. The complainant requested Ward Officer and pleaded for justice, but official remained adamant on his demand. However, he asked the complainant to pay Rs 20,000 as first installment. “The complainant approached Anti Corruption Bureau for taking legal action against accused public servant under law. Accordingly, FIR No. 33/2022 under section 7 of PC Act 1988 was registered and a trap team constituted, which caught accused public servant Mohd Maqbool Bhat red handed while demanding and accepting bribe amount of Rs 20,000 as first installment of bribe of Rs 50,000. He was arrested by ACB and bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses. Subsequently, searches were carried out at different locations associated with accused,” said official, adding that further investigation is going on.
