Vth Sub-Junior National Hockey (Division-B) C’ship J&K loses hope of entering knockout stages

JAMMU:  Hosts Jammu and Kashmir lost all their hopes of making it to the knockout stages of the competition when they lost their second out of three league matches played so far in the ongoing Hockey India Fifth Sub Junior National Hockey (Division-B) Championship at K K Hakku Stadium, here on Tuesday.

In today’s league encounter, J and K suffered a humiliating 02-10 defeat in the hands of mighty Bihar. Anand Kumar Bara emerged as star striker for Bihar with five goals in his account. The opening goal came through Sunil Mundu in the 18th minute, followed by the second scored by Bhaskar in 26th minute.

Just when the first half was in its last minutes, J and K made full use of a penalty stroke when Prabjot Singh converted the first goal for his team beating the goal-keeper in the 33rd minute.  Skipper, Ramandeep netted the second goal for J and K in the 54th minute thereby reduced the score on board.

Earlier, in pool-A match, played in the morning session, Mumbai blanked Goans Hockey 10-0. Ameen Rogay, Satyam Yadvav and Captain Tikaram Thakulla’s scored hat-trick to make it a one-sided contest.

Meanwhile, Bengal trounced Citizen Hockey XI 3-0 to keep their hopes alive in group-C. The first half of the play witnessed a close contest with only goal scored by Akhilesh Santra for Bengal in the 34th minute.

Bengal Hockey Association maintained their pressure on the opponents in the second half as well as Akhilesh Santra again struck the goal box with a brilliant field goal in the 41st minute. The third goal came through Rajesh Mondal in the 44th minute.

In an exciting match between Chandigarh Olympic Association made it a big 15-01 win against Himachal Pradesh. While both the teams were constantly looking for gaps to sneak in goals for their side, it was Chandigarh Olympic Association who drew their first blood in the 11th minute through Mahinder Singh who earned seven goals for his team. Sanjay’s hat-trick in the 23rd, 50th and 62nd minute helped Chandigarh Olympic Association increase the tally.

In another scheduled match of the day, Puducherry defeated Uttarakhand 3-1.
