Volvo S90 Indian Launch in September 2016

Volvo India is gearing up to launch the S90 Sedan in India in September 2016, whose rivals will be the Mercedes Benz E-class, Audi A6, Jaguar XF and the BMW 5-series. The Volvo S90 will likely be priced around Rs. 46 lakh (ex-showroom), as bookings for the sedan are likely to begin from next month.

Volvo will be introducing radar-based safety in India, through the S90 sedan, with the government unlocking 6-38 MHz, 433-434.79 MHz, 302-351 kHz and 76-77 GHz range of frequency bands for vehicle safety.

The S90 is set to replace its older sibling the S80 sedan, which Volvo offers currently in the Indian market. The Volvo 2.0-liter diesel engine will be made available in two states of tune. The D4 version will be the base trim powering 194 hp and a peak torque of 400 Nm. The higher powered D5 will develop 235 hp and a torque of 480 Nm. These engines will be mated to the standard Aisin-Warner 8-speed gearbox. Petrol or hybrid powertrains of the Volvo S90 may be launched at a later date.

The design and also the interiors resemble much of the Volvo XC90 SUV with the “Thor Hammer” LED DRLs in headlamps, front-grille with vertical slats, identical steering and dashboard, 9.0-inch tablet-styled touchscreen infotainment display and the Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) sound systems.

The state-of-the-art Volvo Pilot Assist, as seen in the Volvo XC90 SUV, will be an exciting safety feature. With this feature, autonomous driving can be used for speeds up to 130 kmph.
