Villagers protest against PDD, block Jammu – Poonch National Highway

POONCH : The residents of village Qazi Mohra who are without electricity dark for the last 14 days, held a protest against Power Development Department (PDD) and blocked the Jammu – Poonch National Highway for three hours on Monday.
They said that the transformer which caters power for 400 families, was burnt 14 days back. Though after repeated requests it was replaced by the department late in the evening on 28th December, 2014 but it again got burnt on Monday morning. They said that the PDD is befooling the villagers and deliberately installing the transformer either of sub-standard quality or of lower capacity than that is actually required.
The residents raised slogans against the XEn PDD and said that non-availability of power during the cold weather when the students are preparing for their final examinations, is the biggest problem which the people are facing. They blocked the National Highway and said that XEn should personally give assurance for installing the transformer of the appropriate capacity immediately so that the residents get proper power supply . They also demanded that the Junior Engineer of the area who harasses the residents should also be transferred.
Naib Tehsildar Poonch Zahoor Ahmed, Dy SP Headquarter Deepak Dhingra and SHO Rakesh Akram reached the spot and assured them that the department will be approached for immediate replacement of transformer. On the assurance of the visiting officers the residents lifted Dharna.
Prominent among those who led the protest include Mohd Shafeeq, Riaz Ahmad, Bhopinder Singh and Rakesh Kumar.
