MENDHAR : Residents of village Harmota, Gursai on Wednesday held a protest and blocked Mendhar – Surankote road for not arresting the culprits who set afire the grass stack of one Khursheed Ahmed Choudhary son of Haji Noor of the village. The protesters demanded that some senior police officer should talk to them and assure them that the involved persons would be arrested.
According to report Khursheed lodged a complaint with Police Station Gursai regarding burning of his stack of grass by some mischievious persons. On the basis of his complaint the SHO Gursai registered an open FIR 99/14 under section 435 RPC some days back and started investigation. Since it was an open FIR police could not immediately arrest any one.
On hearing of the blockade of the road by the agitated people, SDPO Mendhar reached the spot and asked the complainant to give the names of the people whom he suspects. The complainant made a statement in this regard in response to which the SDPO assured that police will proceed further immediately. The protesters then lifted Dharna and the road was thrown open for traffic.
