Vigilance books former DC Budgam, others

JAMMU: Vigilance Organisation Kashmir (VOK) on Tuesday registered a case against the then Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam and others in illegal appointment case.
According to report, Vigilance registered a case under Prevention of Corruption Act on outcome of a verification conducted into the allegations of illegal appointment of one Mohammad Iqbal Wani, son of Rehim Wani, resident of Lalpora, Beerwah Budgam Junior Assistant against available post in Education Department in the Pay Scale of 950-1500 under SRO 43.
The verification revealed that the then DC Budgam has illegally issued appointment order under SRO No. 43 in favour of aforesaid beneficiary as compassionate appointment of a person can be done only in case of a person who is a family member of deceased person as defined under Rule (2) of SRO 43. The Rule does not cover the beneficiary appointee who had sustained injuries. By acting in this manner, erstwhile DC Budgam and other concerned officials in connivance with each other and with beneficiary accused have abused official position and illegally conferred undue pecuniary advantage upon the accused beneficiary.
Accordingly, FIR 22/2017 under Section 5(1)(d) read with 5(2) J&K P.C. Act, Svt., 2006 and 120-B RPC was registered in Vigilance against the then Dy. Commissioner Budgam, the aforesaid beneficiary and others and investigation of the case has been taken up.
