JAMMU: BJP senior leader and MLC Vibodh Gupta visited Pahari Hostel, Jammu and took stock of various issues and problem being faced by the students.
Students informed that there is acute shortage of water and electricity and requested MLC Vibodh to help them so that they can properly focus on their studies.
Vibodh said that the present Coalition Government is fully committed for the upliftment of the poor and marginalized Paharis of the State. He informed that the recent Cabinet meeting which was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has recommended grant of ST status to the Paharis and this recommendation has been sent to the Union Ministry of Tribal affairs for further approval from the Central Government. With this, the State Government has fulfilled its commitment as this issue is also part of the agenda of the alliance of the present government, he added.
Vibodh demanded more Pahari Hostels for other districts of the State so that the students of this community can get proper facilities to pursue their studies. He also appealed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Tribal Affairs to give their final approval so that ST status for Paharis can soon become a reality.
