CHENNAI: Volleyball Federation of India on Friday “dismissed” its president Chaudhary Avdhesh Kumar by an unanimous decision of its Special General Body and decided to elect the new chief at a meeting to be convened here on 11th April, 2106 at Chennai.
On March 3, an Emergent General Body meeting here had decided to terminate Kumar and that decision was on Friday ratified by 22 of the 31 state associations representatives who attended the Special General Body, according to Ram Avatar Singh Jakhar, Secretary General of the VFI.
“The General Body today approved to ‘terminate’ President Avadhesh Kumar and his dismissal from the post of President was confirmed,” said Jakhar.
The Returning Officer for the elections on 11th April will be Retd. Justice Rajeswaran, Jakhar said.
He said Raj Kumar, a Senior Vice-President of the VFI, would be the interim chief till the new president is elected and the Executive Committee, which approved the decision, also convened the General Body meeting on 11th April to elect VFI’s new president.
Giving details of other decisions taken today, Jakhar said, “Baseline Ventures India Private Limited has been awarded the sponsorship of the Indian Volleyball League and the IVL Men and Women sections will be held in November this year with eight franchises.
“The IVL will be conducted by a Governing Council with eight members — four from VFI and four from Baseline Company. The VFI would be paid Rs 3.5 crores non-refundable amount by Baseline and the profits from IVL would be shared 50-50 by the Federation and Baseline,” he said. He said today’s meeting also decided payment structure for the players with Rs 8-10 lakh for juniors and youth players, Rs 15-20 lakh for seniors while overseas players would get Rs 20-25 lakh.
As far as telecasting of IVL matches, the VFI has been in discussions with Star Sports, Sony and Ten Sports and the rights would be granted to any of these sports channels.
“Pension Scheme will be launched as also Rs. 1.00 lakh will be provided to the players, ex-players, coaches, referees and support staffs of VFI, which will be given for the needy at the appropriate time,” Jakhar informed.
He said that the house also approved to issue show-cause notice to K. Nandakumar, Associate Secretary, VFI for his anti-Federation activities that will tarnish the image of the Federation at national and international level.
