JAMMU: By banning the entry of half a dozen ‘spoiled’ students into the campus, Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof R D Sharma has shown grit and determination to weed out Gunda elements in order to save the academic environment of the varsity.
Having become safe haven for anti social elements and goon type so-called activists, some of whom even managed their entry into faculty by being absorbed on adhoc basis as lecturers, the Jammu University (JU) administration has finally sent out a terse message that no nonsense will be tolerated henceforth.
Even since his appointment as the VC, Prof Sharma has taken several initiatives to stem out the rot, which has created panic among the vested interests but at the same time instilled confidence among those working towards making this institution as a real temple of learning.
The era of Gundaism appears to be over notwithstanding the blue-eyed boys working as adhoc lecturers remaining on the faculty. They managed their entry by browbeating the top varsity management as also senior members of the faculty by indulging in deceit and blackmailing. Claiming to be research scholars, Phd holders and post graduates, some of these adhoc appointees cannot even write a five line application, least to take classes.
The machinations of the vested interests in browbeating Prof Sharma failed, given the administrative acumen, sincerity of purpose, fair dealing and honest approach of the VC. He has earned reputation of being an administrator of par excellence by establishing a repo with faculty, senior members of the staff and most importantly students of this prestigious university, which is why each step of Prof Sharma gets duly acknowledged and accredited.
By sidelining and marginalising the tainted adhoc appointees, the Gunda elements among the students are feeling the heat of new set up which is resolute to enforce a sort of discipline in the university. For achieving this, the Inquiry Committee, set by the VC to go into the acts of indiscipline committed in the campus, on Wednesday banned the entry of six scholars, Sunny Babber, Research Scholar of Department of Statistics, Gopal Singh M.Phil Scholar of Dogri, Manzoor Ahmed M.Phil Scholar of History, Sukhdev Singh, Research Scholar of Department of Urdu, Jyoti Bala, Research Scholar of Department of Sanskrit and Manali Sharma, M. Phil, Scholar of Department of Economics.
“Prof R D Sharma, a VC of repute and known for his integrity, didn’t succumb to pressure and resorted to what he deemed appropriate in the larger interests of the JU and its students,” said, a senior Professor on assurance of anonymity.
He asserted that similar such steps and decisions by the VC are not ruled out in near future against elements inimical to peace and academic serenity of JU.
