CHANDIGARH: Veteran Cricket Association J&K (VCAJK) XI lifted the Inter-state Veteran Cricket T20 Championship trophy by defeating Chandigarh Veterans by 2-1 in three match series.
In the last match of the series played here, VCAJK Captain Vivek Suri won the toss and elected to bat first and experimented with batting line up as VCAJK was already 2-0 up in the series.
But the experiment did not paid off as VCAJK lost three early wickets at 22 runs. Vivek Suri steadied the innings with Rajeshwar Slathia and both played sensible and shared 60 runs partnership before Rajeshwar was run out after scoring 37 runs. OCC Chandigarh Veterans bowlers bowled on nagging line and length and restricted VCAJK to modest total of 129 runs for six wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Vivek Suri, Amit Kumar and Sunil Sharma scored 31, 14 and 13 runs respectively.
For OCC Chandigarh Veterans Captain Ashwani Koul took two wickets while Daleep and Rakesh claimed one each.
OCC Chandigarh started the run chase on a positive note and their openers shared 39 runs for the first wicket before Ashwani was out on 14 runs. Rahul played a sheet anchor role while Anil and Ravinder Jaswal supported him and they chased the required target in 16.5 overs loosing three wickets, Rahul, Ravinder and Anil scored 43, 28 and 23 respectively.
For VCAJK Vivek Suri, Raheshwar and Sandeep grabbed one wicket each. Ashwani Koul of Chandigarh Veterans was declared Man of the Match.
Amit Kumar of VCAJK was declared Player of the Series and Best Batsman, Vivek Suri, Captain of VCAJK, was declared Best Bowler and Paras as Best Fielder of the tournament.
