JAMMU: A three-week refresher course in the subject of physics commenced at University of Jammu here on Thursday. The course which is being attended by around 30 university and college teachers from different parts of the country was inaugurated by Prof R.D Sharma, Vice Chancellor (VC), University of Jammu.
Prof Sharma, while speaking on the occasion, called upon the participating teachers to strive hard for garnering latest knowledge. He also advised the teachers to periodically revisit their areas of research for better understanding of their areas of expertise. He emphasised that the spirit of the younger faculty should be to achieve the knowledge equipped with the latest developments in the subject rather than accruing certificate for promotional purposes.
Prof Sharma while complementing the HRDC for successfully organising the academic programmes and for maintaining high academic standards hoped that the HRDC shall continue with the successful organizing spree.
Earlier the participating teachers were welcomed by Prof Vivek Gupta, HoD Physics and Course Coordinator. Prof J.P Singh Joorel, Director HRDC in his address underlined the historical perspective of higher education in India and the need for organising refresher courses for the teaching faculty.
Dean of Sciences Prof Naresh Padha in his address highlighted the various contemporary educational initiatives that have been introduced in the higher education and as to how they can be of use to the teaching community.
Ranjeet Kalra, teaching faculty with the HRDC in his address oriented the teachers with the various facets of HRDC and the contours of the three week course.
The inaugural function among others was attended by Prof Rajnikant, Prof P.N Kotru, Prof S.K Khosa, Special Secretary of VC Neeraj Sharma, Prof Arun Bharti, Prof P.V.K.S Baba, Prof K.K Bamzai, Prof Rakesh Vaid, Dr Ramni Gupta, Dr Sandeep Arya, Dr Praveen Lehna, Dr Sushil Sharma, Sanjay Mahajan faculty members and staff of physics and HRDC.
