JAMMU: President, Volleyball Association of J&K (VAJK), Sidharth Daluja has called upon all office bearers and volleyball lovers to spread the canvas of volleyball game all across the J&K UT.
Addressing the office bearers and Executive Members in annual general/executive committee of the Volleyball Association of J&K yesterday evening at Hotel Lemon Tree Jammu, the President exhorted them to dedicate their services for betterment of volleyball at National and International levels.
The members besides confirming the minutes of last year meeting, reviewed and discussed the calendar of sports activities for the year 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 threadbare.
Apart from this, audited accounts of the association for the year 2022-2023 was also discussed and passed by the members.
While presenting the report for the year 2022 and 2023, Vijay Kumar Magotra, General Secretary, highlighted of the achievements of the Association including hosting of 48th Junior National Volleyball Championship after a gap of 14 years in JKUT at MA Stadium Jammu from November 14 to 19, 2022 wherein over 1000 players/officials participated in the six day mega championship. J&K UT Junior boys created history by securing 3rd position (bronze medal) for the first time in the championship, he said adding that South Kashmir Championship at Kulgam organised by the Association in close coordination with J&K Sports Council, second of its kind was another challenging assignment of the association held at Yaripora Badroo, Kulgam from December 19 to 21, 2022 in severe cold condition. The main attraction of this championship was distribution of the cash prizes for the first time to the winner teams @ Rs 20,000 each and runner teams @ Rs 15,000 each. This championship was declared open by Secretary by J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gul whereas DC Kulgam Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-Din was the Chief Guest on the concluding function.
Keeping in view the excellent performance of JKUT Junior boys teams in 48th Junior National Volleyball Championship at Jammu , under the captainship of Mannat Choudhary, International Volleyball Player, Son of Soil -was the star attraction of the Championship.
Choudhary has been conferred state award for outstanding sportsperson 2022 with cash prize of Rs 51,000, a Medal and a Citation by the Government of the J&K. This award is recognitions of services rendered by all office bears of the association as well as of volleyball coaches of the JK UT.
To get recognitions in a team- wise event like volleyball game, is indeed an Uphill task , however the Volleyball Association of J&K has achieved the great success in getting four Volleyball probables of JKUT short listed for national camps in various age categories.
JKUT teams participated in Youth Boys in 25th Youth National Championship at Panna, MP, Sub Juniors (boys and girls) in 44th Sub Junior Volleyball Championship at Delhi and Senior (men and women) in 71th Senior National Volleyball Championship at Guwahati, Assam during the year 2022-2023. The performance of our teams in National participation have been up to the mark and result-oriented.
The members thanked sponsors / stakeholders especially J&K Sports Council for the excellent conduct of National junior Volleyball Championship at Jammu hosted by the Association.
The office bearers, volleyball coaches/ referees were honored with utility gifts for their contribution in the National Championship held at Jammu on the occasion.
Raj Daluja, Patron-in-Chief underlined the importance of sports especially Volleyball to divert the attention of ruler youth from drug addiction and strongly advocated for inspirations of youth towards sports. Among dignitaries H.S Gill Executive Vice President, R.C Sharma Treasurer, a large number of members from Kashmir and Jammu divisions including female executive members Veena Kumari and Manpreet Kour graced the function.
The proceedings of the meeting were conducted by Kuldeep Magotra Chief Executive Officer of the Association.
