Vaid stresses on better supervision, accountability

JAMMU: Director General of Police (DGP), Dr. S.P Vaid on Friday said that inspection and supervision ensures proficiency and accountability in the working of Jammu and Kashmir Police.
“Dedication and conviction is also must to maintain tangible bonds with the people,” he said while addressing police officers of Jammu Province through video conferencing from Police Headquarters (PHQ) here.
“Improvements in professional efficiencies and accountability at grass root level would garner public cooperation in our efforts in different areas of policing,” he said adding that behavioural change in the investigation field needs to be focused to harvest people’s cooperation.
To ensure security of the people in the State, DGP said that coordinated efforts are taken to tackle the activities of anti-social elements and criminals.
There should be no laxity in the fight against terrorism and drug abuse, which is our major concern for maintaining peace and order, he asserted. “JKP with its conviction has been fighting against the menace of terrorism and we have to involve the common people in this fight, besides addressing their difficulties,” he said adding that good public rappo has been paying dividends and the force has succeeded in handling the situations.
Dr. Vaid stressed to enhance surveillance in the border areas and put in place efficient measures for the security of the people. Frequent visits by the senior officers to Thanas and police posts should be ensured to improve their functioning and standards of discipline.
Activities of unscrupulous elements should be monitored and dealt under law. Input sharing with other wings and agencies for making required measures should also given due attention, said the DGP.
Dr. Vaid emphasised the officers to ensure implementation of welfare schemes for the personnel deployed in field. He said that in order to keep the morale of Jawans high, their living and working facilities needs to be enhanced.
In case difficulties of cops in the field are addressed properly, their conviction towards public service would be doubled, added Dr. Vaid.
During the video conferencing, officers from different wings and districts apprised the DGP about the efforts and measures undertaken in their respective jurisdictions to improve police functioning and maintain public rappo. They also gave some suggestions for making JKP more people friendly.
Earlier the DGP, in a communiqué to all field officers in the State asked to keep their men and machinery ready for extending required assistance to the people in remote areas in case of any averse situation caused by the predicted inclement weather. He also stressed the officers to remain in close touch with the civil administration to respond any emergency call.
DGP said that in view of the prediction of snow fall and rains, people living in the areas prone to landslides and avalanches, shall be briefed adequately about extra precautions. He has asked to remain present on the ground and coordinate with civil administration to lessen the miseries of civil populace in case of any eventuality.
