JAMMU: District Udhampur girls emerged new champion while boys’ trophy was retained by the hosts Jammu district in the 35th J&K UT Junior Volleyball Championship which concluded today at MA Stadium, here.
In the girls final, Udhampur defeated Samba 3-1 (25-12, 28-26, 22-25, 25-23) while the title clash between Jammu and Samba boys retained a one-sided contest with former making it 3-0 (25-12,25-18,25-15) win.
Semifinals: Samba beat Ganderbal 3-2 (23-25,19-25,25-22,25-22,15-10) and Jammu beat Poonch 3-0 (25-20,25-18,25-21).
In the valedictory function, Commissioner JMC, Rahul Yadav was Chief Guest, who presented the title trophies and other individual prizes.
Saroj Sethi, Senior Manager Chenab Valley Power Projects Limited was guest of honour whereas Rajeev Sharma, member J&K Sports Council presided over the function.
The organisers also gave away cash prizes worth Rs 40,000 to the teams and individual players.
Earlier, General Secretary of the Association, Vijay Magotra presented a brief note of the three-day event.
Raj Daluja, patron-in -chief Volleyball Association of J&K also encouraged the teams and officials.
Among others present were Balvinder Singh, Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh, Ashok Padha, Abdul Ahad Shah, Nilofer Habib, Balbinder Singh, Akbar Ali, Suresh Chib, Subash Shastri, Veena Kumari, Manpreet Kour, Rajeev Dogra, Prateek Kumar and Naresh Kumar.
The matches were officiated by the technical panel including Amarjeet Singh, Mulkhraj Sharma, Amit Sharma, Neeraj Sharma, Intizar Ali, Mohd. Shabir, Sidharth Hussain, Wasim Akram, Parvinder Singh, Manzoor, Shah Faisal and Abdul Qayoom.
