UDHAMPUR: Udhampur Volleyball Club lifted the District Volleyball Championship title in boys section by defeating City Volleyball Club Udhampur in the final played at Mini Stadium, here on Friday.
The tournament was organised by Volleyball Association of District Udhampur under the aegis of Volleyball Association of J and K and sponsored by Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council.
Earlier both the teams were introduced to the Chief Guest, Neeraj Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur and Presiding Officer Surinder Gupta, DIG Udhampur Reasi Range by Raj Guru, President of the Volleyball Association of District Udhampur and Organising Secretary Sanjay Sharma and Roshan Lal.
In a well contested game of five sets Udhampur Volleyball Club defeated City Volleyball Club with 3-1 (25-19, 15-25, 20-25, 15-13). Both the guests highlighted the importance of games which help in developing sense of team work, discipline and physical fitness besides paving way to maintain brotherhood and communal harmony.
Raj Guru said that conducting of such sports activities can create drugs free atmosphere. The Chief Guest gave away trophies to winner and runner up teams of boys and girls and also individual prizes. Rubin Teji was honoured with the trophy of Best Player of the Tournament.
Today’s match was officiated by Ashok Kumar, Naveen Sharma, Kuldeep Sharma, Rajesh, Vipan Photra and Sourav Pandit.
Earlier, before the start of match, a two minutes silence was observed in memory of departed souls who met with an accident yesterday at Ghordhi. Tributes were also paid to Sudershan Gupta, Patron Volleyball Association of Jammu and Kashmir. Dr Jatinder Mehta National Health Mission J and K, Rakesh Jamwal, Dr Chander Parkash CMO, Dr Jagdish Mehoo Project Officer DRDO, Bodh Raj Deputy Controller Civil Defence, Ved Parkash Principal HSS Udhampur, Dr M.R Bhamngi, Maqbool Shah, Mohd Tariq, Tanveer Ahmed, Santosh Kumari, PS Manhas, Ravi Singh and Suresh Khajuria were also present.
