Udhampur boys, Kathua girls emerge champions


JAMMU: District Udhampur boys and district Kathua girls clinched boys and girls title trophies respectively in the inter-district State level under-19 badminton tournament, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at BSF Stadium, here on Wednesday.
In boys final, Udhampur trounced district Srinagar 2-0. The Results: Vikram beat Ishan 21-16, 21-11; Vikram and Dhanajay defeated Ishan and Sharib 2-0 (21-10, 21-18.
Meanwhile, in girls final, district Kathua defeated visiting Srinagar team 2-0. The Results: Shikha Sharma outplayed Intzar 21-07, 21-00; Shikha and Durga trounced Intzar and Asama 21-09, 21-08.
Earlier, host Jammu District could not do well in both boys and girls sections thus lost in the preliminary rounds in both the events.
In the concluding function, Deputy Director (Central), DYSS, Kanchan Bala was Chief Guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes.
She was all praise for the teams from district Udhampur, Kathua and Srinagar for their outstanding performance in the competition. Interacting with the finalist teams, she asked the shutlers to put in extra hard work so as to excel in the upcoming National School Games.
