RAJOURI: A 20 years youth was crushed to death late in the evening on Sunday when an over speeding Echo Van hit a scooty.
According to report a 20 years youth namely Danish Malik son of Ghulam Qadir along with his friend Rizwan Mirza son of Ahsan Haq both residents of village Kheora who were on their scooty, was hit by the Echo Van bearing registration No JK02B-3846 dragging the scooty up to 100 meters which resulted into the death of Danish Malik on the spot and injury to Rizwan Mirza.
Sources said that two persons sitting in the van tried to flee but were later overpowered by the locals. The angry mob thrashed the driver and his associate and torched the vehicle. Meanwhile the Rajouri Police reached the spot and tried to control the situation when a large gathering of people holding a protest, started pelting stones and tried to torch the police vehicle also.
Meanwhile the victims were shifted to District Hospital Rajouri where the doctors declared Danish Malik as brought dead. Rizwan who had suffered injuries, was admitted for treatment. People of the locality reached the hospital and again held a protest.
The SSP Rajouri also reached the spot and told the protesters that the accused identified as Jai Ram son of Kamal Singh and Surinder Singh son of Ramhet Singh residents of Gwalior have already been arrested and will be booked under relevant sections of law for stringent action.
The police have registered a case FIR 428/16 under section 302, 109 and 323 RPC for investigation.
