Two retired revenue officials among four arrested in land grabbing case

JAMMU: The Crime Branch Jammu on Monday arrested four persons, including a former Tehsildar and a retired Girdawar, in connection with a land grabbing case.
A chargesheet has also been filed in the court for judicial determination.
“The case began when Koushalaya Devi, widow of Late Duni Chand, lodged a written complaint, alleging that her late husband, a displaced person of 1947, was allotted 72 kanals and 4 marlas of land in village Dangray, R S Pura (now Suchetgarh),” Crime Branch official said.
Official added, “The complainant claimed that the accused, along with their father and in collusion with revenue officials, fraudulently got the land transferred and mutated in their favour. They allegedly used a forged Adoption Deed, which falsely showed the accused as the adopted son of the complainant and her husband, despite her never having appeared before any revenue officer or court for the adoption process.”
Following the complaint, Official said, the Crime Branch initiated a preliminary verification, registered FIR No. 30/2016, and launched an investigation. The investigation, led by an Deputy SP, uncovered offenses of cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy against eight individuals.
Four of the accused were arrested, while two were bailed out, and two have since passed away, Official said.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Crime Jammu, Benam Tosh, confirmed that the investigation has been completed, and the chargesheet has been filed against all eight accused in the Special Judge Anti-Corruption Court Jammu for judicial determination.
