Berlin :  The second round of German Bundesliga season closed with two goalless draws, as spectators in Freiburg and Mainz had very little to cheer about.

Neither Mainz and Hannover nor Freiburg and Monchengladbach had to offer goals Sunday, reports Xinhua.

Despite a goalless draw between Mainz and Hannover, both teams were able to extend their unbeaten run meanwhile Freiburg wait for their first win as Admir Mehmedi squandered a golden chance from the penalty spot.

Mainz still await their first win of the season as they remain winless in four straight games overall whereas Hannover extended their unbeaten run.

“We exerted a lot of pressure in the first half but unfortunately we couldn’t do the same in the second,” Mainz coach Kasper Hjulmand said.

“We played better in the second half but the draw is okay for us,” Hannover coach Tayfun Korkut said.

Elsewhere, Freiburg and Monchengladbach also lacked the cutting edge and had to share the spoils after 90 minutes.

Freiburg staged the better performance on home soil while Monchengladbach seemed content with the draw.

Nevertheless, Freiburg had the chance to snatch more than a point when Monchengladbach’s Tony Jatschke brought down Maximilian Philipp inside the box, allowing Admir Mehmedi to step up to the spot.

The Swiss international striker squandered the penalty as he pulled the ball over the goal in the 63rd minute.

The draw secured Freiburg’s first point of the new campaign while Monchengladbach earned their second draw in as many matches.

“We have not played so well but we can be satisfied as we usually lose here,” Monchengladbach coach Lucien Favre said.
