Two drug peddlers arrested, 500 Kgs Charas recovered

KUPWARA: Continuing with the mission of J and K Police to free the society from drug abuse and psychotropic substances, based on specific input, the special team of District Police Kupwara has recovered 500 Kgs Charas from Kupwara town and its peripheral area.
Police arrested two notorious drug peddlers/sellers of psychotropic substances along with contraband consignment.
The arrested accused persons have been identified as Mohammad Hussain Lone, son of Abdul Jabbar Lone, resident of Mirnag Hyama and Sajjad Ahmed Sofi, son of Ghulam Mohd Sofi, resident of Arampura, Kupwara.
In another raid, the special team recovered 40 kgs minor forest produce and arrested two smugglers along with the vehicle.
The arrested smugglers have been identified as Bashir Ahmed Paswal, son of Salam Din Poswal,
resident of Warnow Kupwara and Ghulam Mohammad Shah, son of Saifudin Shah, resident of Warnow Kupwara. Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered and investigation is in progress.
Briefing the media persons, SSP Kupwara, Shamsheer Hussain said that during the special drive against drug peddlers, the special team has so far recovered 4.5 Kgs of Charas, 1 Kg of Heroin, 2 Kgs of Brown Sugar and huge quantity of codeine.
He said that more arrests and recoveries are expected in near future so as to bust the whole racket involved in sale of banned drugs and psychotropic substances which are involving the youth of the area.
He also said that so far 17 accused involved in drug peddling/narcotic smugglers including the cross LoC narcotic smugglers have been arrested and investigation of registered cases is in progress.
SSP also appealed the local population to assist the police in its special
drive so as to make the Kupwara drug free which is one of the commandments of J and K Police for the year 2017.
