Two detained after drone covering wedding flies near Raj Bhawan

As use of drone is banned, how it was being operated; Banquet halls near vital installations a major security lapse

JAMMU: Two persons were detained on Monday after the drone they were using to cover a wedding flew near the Raj Bhawan, a designated ‘no-fly zone.’

The drone has been seized and the duo is being questioned, they said on Tuesday.
“There was a (wedding) party going on in Hari Niwas Palace, right next to Raj Bhawan. The drone was spotted flying near the parking area of the Raj Bhawan. It might have been there to cover the function”, a senior officer told.
He said since the area around the Raj Bhawan is a ‘no-fly zone’, the drone was seized and the two youth from Dehradun were detained for questioning.
The drone will be checked to ascertain if there was anything suspicious in it, he said.
“Prima facie it has emerged that the drone was being used to photograph a private event. Any further detail emerging shall be accordingly shared,” Senior Superintendent of Police (Jammu), Chandan Kohli said.
Sale, use and even possession of a drone at a public place is banned, then how drones are being used for photography at a wedding that too near Raj Bhawan.
A retired police officer on the condition of anonymity opined that how a banquet hall is allowed to operate near sensitive and vital installation like Raj Bhawan.
Banquet halls are visited by numerous persons. How security agencies allowing this major security lapse in Jammu questions former police officer, adding, “There must not be any banquet hall near vital installations”.
