KATHUA: Excise Department on Wednesday booked two persons under J&K Excise Act, destroyed 950 kgs of Lahan and recovered 55 bottles of illicit liquor while conducting raids here.
Under the directions of Excise Commissioner, Mohammad Javed Khan and the active supervision of the Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive), Jammu, Ghanshyam Singh, the excise team Kathua led by ETO, Excise Range Kathua, Sandeep Gupta, Inspectors Excise, Arun Kumar and Shadi Lal along with excise staff raided the upper Saktachak, Chibbachak and Banyari areas of Kathua District to arrest the menace of illicit distillation of liquor.
During the course of raids two persons namely Ganju Ram, son of Karam Chand, resident of Banyari, Marheen Kathua and Rakesh Kumar Singh, son of Ganju Kumar, resident of Banyari, Marheen Kathua were booked under Sec 48(a) of J&K Excise Act for possession of illicit liquor. More than 950 kilograms of Lahan and 55 bottles of illicit liquor were recovered from the state land. The excise team destroyed the recovered Lahan on spot.
