Two arrested for attacking police, revenue officials

KATHUA: Police on Wednesday arrested two persons who attacked the police and revenue officials during an anti-encroachment drive while the main accused who fired upon the officials is still at large.
As per the details, on 31st January 2017, one Som Raj son of Jalal resident of Chack Bhaga Tehsil and district Kathua and others fired upon police party and revenue staff from a licensed weapon (12 Bore Gun) when they were trying get the State land occupied by him vacated. A case vide FIR No. 30/2017 under sections 307, 353 RPC 3/25 Arms Act was registered in this connection at Police Station Kathua. After the commission of alleged offence, they absconded from the spot.
During the course of investigation, series of raid were conducted at various places and one accused namely Samitri Devi wife of Som Raj resident of Chack Bhaga was arrested and but was given bail by the Court of Law after six days.
Keeping in view the sensitivity of the issue, a Special Investigation Team headed by Addl. SP Kathua has been constituted for taking concrete steps to arrest absconding accused persons.
Today, two accused persons namely Hans Raj son of Dhani Ram resident of Ramkot district Kathua (brother in law of prime accused) and Ashok Kumar son of Som Raj resident of Chack Bhaga Tehsil and district Kathua (son of prime accused) have been arrested and are being subjected to interrogation. In order to ensure the presence of prime accused namely Som Raj before investigating agency, process has been initiated to identify his property for attachment, police informed. In addition to this, matter has been taken up with Dy. Commissioner Kathua for cancellation of gun license of absconding accused Som Raj. Hectic efforts are being made to trace out remaining accused persons and the case will be concluded on merits, police added.
