TV drama on Queen Victoria in works

London:  The early life Queen Victoria will be explored in a brand new drama.

Eight-hour series “Victoria” will follow Britain’s longest-reigning monarch as she leaves childhood behind and ascends to the throne at the age of just 18, reported Digital Spy.

Novelist Daisy Goodwin is making her screenwriting debut with the series, which will be produced by Mammoth Screen, the team behind BBC One’s recent hit period drama “Poldark”.

“This epic series is a chance to see the Victorian age through the eyes of the Queen herself for the first time. She’s a vibrant, fascinating character whose legacy lives on today,”said Steve November, director of drama.

“Her life story is one that is by turns genuinely dramatic, romantic and surprising. We are delighted to be working with Daisy Goodwin, who knows her subject intimately and has brought her to life beautifully, and with Mammoth, who we know are masters of epic period drama.”

“Victoria” will begin filming in locations across the UK from September, with casting to be announced in the coming months.
