POONCH: District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Poonch organised a turban tying competition in which over 300 students of 5th class to 12th class participated. The competition was held under the supervision of President of the committee Prof Narinder Singh in which three judges including Daljit Singh, Bhupinder Singh and Gurvinder Singh were deputed to adjudge the winners.
Navjot Singh secured the first position in the competition while Jaspreet Singh the second and Roopal Singh got third position.
Secretary of the Committee Surjan Singh while addressing the participants, congratulated the winners. He appreciated their enthusiasm and spirit towards their traditional marks of Sardars. He said that turban is not only a cloth but a headgear which properly protects the head in all eventualities. He said that those wearing turban are legally exempted from wearing helmets while driving two wheelers because turban provides sufficient protection for head. He advised the youths to shun wearing Patkas and small hankies because these are firstly not according to Sikh traditions and secondly these do not provide required protection to the head.
Surjan Singh also advised the students to acquire good education so as to contribute towards the betterment of the countrymen. He also advised them to keep themselves away from drugs which bring avoidable destruction of financial and health.
