Training for revival of backyard poultry farming by KVK in Doda

DODA: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) SKUAST-J, Doda (Bhadarwah) initiated rejuvenation of backyard poultry farming in the rural areas of district Doda for ensuring the economic sustainability of the farming community.
A series of programmes including training and front line demonstrations on rearing of Vanraja breed of poultry were conducted by the KVK in Droundi, Thalsara and Kulsari villages of the district under the overall guidance of Dr K.S Risam, Director Extension, SKUAST-J. These programmes were conducted by team of scientists from KVK headed by Dr. R.S Bandral, comprising of Dr. B. Brahma, Dr. Narinder Paul, Dr A.S Charak, and Dr. Amitesh Sharma.
During the programmes, Dr. B. Brahma highlighted the importance of backyard poultry in rural livelihood of hilly areas and made aware the farmers about feeding and housing management practices for getting higher returns from backyard poultry. Farmers keenly participated in the programme and discussed about the feeding, housing and disease management of the poultry birds for better body weight gain and feed conversion efficiency. Dr. Narinder Paul motivated the farmers especially the rural youths for undertaking backyard poultry as additional source of income for farm households. The programmes concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. A.S Charak.
