Training programme culminates at KVK Reasi

REASI: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) concluded three days sponsored training programme on “Production technologies in horticultural crops” here today at KVK, Reasi campus. The programme was attended by 35 orchardists from Samba district of J&K.
Department of Horticulture, Samba sponsored the training programme. The programme was organized under the able guidance of Director Extension of SKUAST-J, Dr.SK.Gupta. Various technical sessions including the field visits were organised during the programme. The programme was inaugurated by Dr.Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi with the warm welcome of the participants. While speaking in the inaugural session, he talked in length on the importance of advance horticulture. He said that the farmers should divert themselves from subsistence horticulture farming to commercial horticulture farming so that their income and employment can be increased. He talked in length on scientific horticulture and gave a detail view of high yielding/hybrid varieties, intercropping, micro-irrigation, high density orchards, farm machineries etc. in the horticultural crops. He also talked in length on the various environmental and physiological factors causing unfruitfulness in the horticultural fruits and gave their remedial measures. He stressed on the organic horticulture and said that farmers can fetch more prices by growing the organic horticultural crops. He guided farmers on organic formulations such as Panchgavya, Jeevamrit, Cow Urine, Beejamrit to be used in the horticultural crops. He elaborated the production technologies of sub-tropical fruits and explained the sub-tropical fruits insect-pests and diseases and their remedial measures. He guided the farmers on value addition, Integrated Nutrient Management, pollination, flowering, fruiting etc. in the horticultural crops.
Dr.Lalit Updhyay, Scientist spoke on commercial farming and encouraged farmers for more plantations. He also gave remedial measures of monkey menace and guided farmers on medicinal and aromatic plants. He stressed on the new technologies in the horticultural crops. Dr. Sanjay Kaushal, Scientist interacted with the farmers and guided farmers on technical know-how in agricultural/horticultural crops. Rakesh Kumar, Horticulture Development Officer, Samba explained the certain centrally and state centered government schemes/programmes ongoing in the state specifically for the orchardists. Sh. Romesh Chander spoke on the grafting techniques in the horticultural crops. The use of power tiller was also demonstrated for the orchardists. The extension literature on organic farming was also distributed among the orchardists.
Farmers also visited the KVK crop cafeteria, mango orchard, hydroponic unit, vermicompost unit, Kadaknath unit etc. and were highly impressed by observing the results.
On this occasion many quarries were raised by the orchardists which the experts answered in a satisfactorily way. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal and Sanjay Kumar and concluded by Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi with formal vote of thanks.
