REASI: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology -Jammu organised five days sponsored training programme on advance horticulture in collaboration with the Department of Horticulture, Udhampur at KVK, Reasi campus under MIDH scheme.
In all 29 orchardists from different blocks of Udhampur District participated in the programme along with Horticulture Department officers and technicians. Dr.
Banarsi Lal SMS introduced the subject to the farmers in detail and enquired about their special achievements and problems especially in horticulture sector. In this five day long programme various technical sessions were covered. Dr.Banarsi suggested to the farmers that they should grow horticultural crops for commercial purpose and motivated them for the entrepreneurship development in horticultural crops. He further narrated about the high yielding varieties of both the temperate and subtropical fruit plants. He gave detailed view on the scientific methods for planting the horticultural plants.
Dr. Sanjay Kaushal SMS narrated the practices involved in planting the horticultural plants and told the farmers that they can generate employment by growing the horticultural crops. Dr. Shahid Ahamad, PC gave details about the preventive measures of plant diseases for the horticultural crops. He recommended some chemicals for controlling the plant diseases.
Dr. Mandeep Singh Azad, SMS suggested to the farmers that they should use animal rotten FYM/vermicompost for the horticultural plants and also emphasised on organic horticulture.
Lalit Upadhaya SMS gave a detailed view for the site selection and layout of orchards. Jagdish Kumar, Computer Programme elaborated the use of ICTs for the orchardists.
Various practicals on propagation of horticultural crops management were demonstrated to the farmers and various quarries were answered for farmers by Dr. Banarsi, HDO and farm progressive farmer in a satisfactorily way. Boarding and lodging of farmers was done at the farmers hostel of KVK Reasi.
Programme was assisted by S. Satbir Singh, Manohar Lal, Ashok Kumar, Sanjay Kumar and Mohd. Iqbal. Programme was concluded by vote of thanks by Dr. Banarsi Lal. Programme was co-ordinated by Chief Horticulture Officer Udhampur, C.L Sharma and programme Co-ordinator, KVK, Reasi Dr. Shahid Ahamad.
