Traffic Police holds cycle rally for safety awareness

SRINAGAR: A cycle rally for safety awareness was organised by City Traffic Police Srinagar under the Civic Action Programme of Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The Rally was flagged off by Ghulam Hassan Bhat, DIG Traffic, Kashmir. While addressing the cyclists, Bhat said that the purpose of the event was to encourage people to move towards eco-friendly modes of transport and to send a strict message to discourage underage driving. “Safety of the riders is our prime concern and various activities are undertaken to bring awareness among road users,” he said and appreciated the youth for coming forward together and generates awareness on road safety.
Expressing his concern over the rising rate of accidents, Bhat reiterated that Traffic Department is committed to work towards reducing such incidents, taking along other stake holders. Traffic Police was supported in this endeavour by J&K Bank, Police Wives Welfare Association, Fire Fox, KRSF, Hyundai, Honda, Himalayan Motors and V-Mart.
Pallavi Gillani, representing Police Wives Welfare Association, Parvez Ahmad Nengroo, Chairman CEO J&K Bank, Sargun Shukla SSP Traffic City Srinagar, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, were also present on the occasion.
Around 350 children from various schools all across Srinagar participated in the event. The huge cavalcade of cyclists in an extremely disciplined formation of batches rode from Traffic Police Office via Dalgate, Boulevard, Lalit, Gupkar, TRC and concluded back at the venue.
Parvez Ahmad lauded the effort put in place by City Traffic to emphasise on the safety of youth and pedestrians on the roads and also committed to encourage such initiatives involving the youth.
Dr. Pallavi Gillani from PWWA appreciated the initiative of Traffic Police for conducting such events and hoped that these events will be organized regularly. She assured the people that PWWA is also committed to work for endeavors aimed at involving the youth.
Later SSP Traffic City Srinagar, Sargun Shukla thanked all the participants, schools and parents for making the event a success.
