Traders Bandh against parking slots continues on day 3

STATE TIMES NEWS
KARGIL: Markets and other establishments remained closed for the third consecutive day here in Kargil Town due to Bandh call given by the Merchant Association Kargil on the issue of parking slots.
Talking to media persons, General Secretary Merchant Association Kargil Mohammad Yaseen said that the traders have demanded to restrict parking facility near shops as it was affecting their business especially in absence of footpaths.
Responding on the issue of traders’ consent on parking during first phase, Yaseen said that they have only allowed the customers to park the vehicles only for 30 minutes which has now become a problem.
Resenting on the tendering process for the parking slots, he said that this will lead to complicate the issue with legal contingency coming into the scene.
Regretting the inconvenience caused to people, Yaseen said that the traders shall continue with the strike till their demand is not fulfilled.
“Islamia School Kargil, IKMT, Taxi Union, Congress and many others have extended their support for the cause of Merchant Association”, he maintained.
However, District Congress Committee Kargil has written a letter to the Deputy Commissioner Kargil and suggested for shifting the parking slots from Main Market and till the time the makeshift parking is made operational, it was suggested to follow odd-even formula. Meanwhile, Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC Kargil Haji Hanifa Jan informed that he has called a meeting of the stakeholders on Monday and is hopeful of an amicable solution.
