Tourism Department organises ‘Dangal Mela’ at Mansar

JAMMU: In its endeavour to organize Promotional events and activities at Mansar, the Department of Tourism, J&K on Thursday organized a grand ‘Dangal Mela’ in collaboration with the local stakeholders and Dangal Committee. The event was celebrated with grandeur and festivities which was appreciated by the locals and the visiting tourists.
It is pertinent to mention here that Dangal Mela is organized annually at Mansar and locals participate in this annual event with great enthusiasm.
The event was organized in joint collaborative effort of the Directorate of Tourism Jammu, Chief Executive Officer Mansar-Surinsar Development Authority and District Administration Udhampur along with the local Stakeholders and PRI representatives of the area. The event was attended by CEO Mansar-Surinsar Development Authority Ved Prakash along with prominent citizens of the area. Participating wrestlers from J&K, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi wrestled for the coveted title amid loud cheers of the onlookers.
Speaking on the occasion, Ved Prakash, Chief Executive Officer Mansar-Surinsar Development Authority, said that the Department of Tourism, Jammu and Kashmir is committed in its endeavour to promote Mansar-Surinsar amongst the tourists especially those visiting the holy town of Katra.
He said efforts are being made to organize more promotional events of the area within J&K and outside so that the local as well as outside travelers visit Surinsar and Mansar in huge numbers. He also added that the traditional festivals and local folk performances shall be organized in the area in close collaboration with local Stakeholders, so that our culture is also presented before the visiting tourists.
He elaborated to the media persons that the annual Dangal Mela has been organized as the first of the events planned for this area for the ongoing year 2023-24 and more promotional events are in the offing in the near future.
Among others present on the occasion were Amit Sharma, DDC member Udhampur, PRI representatives, local stakeholders and prominent citizens. They appreciated the efforts of the Tourism Department in enhancing the footfall of tourists in the Surinsar Mansar area. The event was witnessed by thousands of locals/outside UT of J&K.
