The Government of India talks tough when Pakistan violates the ceasefire along the Line of Control, but does not actually enforce its hard stand. For example, bilateral trade is sometimes cancelled and bus trips are discontinued in response to Pakistani provocations, but eventually they are all restored.
Mere cancellation of Foreign Secretary level talks and opposition to the Pakistani High Commissioner’s discussions with separatists cannot be a healing balm. These do not form a solution to ceasefire violations in which many innocent lives are lost. The time has come when Indian diplomats, think-tanks and some military leaders come together to ponder over the problem of ceasefire violations.
