Three thieves held; stolen goods, jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakh recovered

LEH: Leh Police arrested three local youth on charges of burglaries and recovered stolen items including electronic gadgets and jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakh from their possession. According to a police official, the arrested burglars, aged between 19 to 23 years, are the school dropouts.
“We arrested two of them on suspicion and on questioning they confessed to have committed the burglaries and also disclosed the identity of one of their accomplice who was also arrested. The trio used to recce the area, spot the unoccupied houses and later in the middle of the night commit thefts,” SSP Leh Udhay Bhaskar Billa said while speaking to media. SHO Inspector Stanzin Dorjay, Police Post Choglamsar Incharge SI Rigzen Gurmet and PP Colony Incharge SI Meeraj Giri were also present.
The recovered goods include two Samsung LED TV, two Laptops, Gold Chains, Mobile Phone, LPG cylinders, utensils, Oil, Butter, soap and blankets. The arrested youth hailed from different villages and were staying in a rented accommodation for the past one month, police said adding that a car used in the crime has also been seized.
Police however, claimed that the arrested youth are not professional thieves. The SSP Leh urged civil society, police and media persons to work together to curb such crimes and to sway the youth to become the part of process of nation building.
He urged people to inform police regarding unoccupied houses in case they leave Ladakh during winters.
Divulging that these arrested youth belong to reputed families with no past criminal records, the SSP asked people to report each and every crime to police for ensuring crime free society.
A case vide FIR 87/2016 under Sections 457 and 380 RPC was registered against the accused at Police Post (PP) Choglamsar.
Responding to queries, Investigation Officer SI Rigzen Gurmet said that as per SSP’s direction Police had been conducting round the clock patrolling in all areas to curb thefts. The arrest of these three youths who were travelling in a car near Himank office at Choglamsar was also due to extra vigil of police team following recovery of stolen goods from their rented accommodation in presence of a Magistrate.
