Three-day Jashn-E-Riyasat concludes at JU

JAMMU: School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, University of Jammu concluded the three-day long celebrations of Jashn-e-Riyasat – Celebrating the colours of J and K at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium Complex, University of Jammu.
Shamsher Singh Manhas, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha was the Chief Guest and Prof. R.D Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, was presiding over the valedictory ceremony. The event was attended by the culinary experts of Chef Association of Five Rivers, Principles of various Degree Colleges and Schools of the region, NCC cadets and students of School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
Prof. R D Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu in his presidential remarks congratulated the School for consecutively organizing such successful events promoting the culture and heritage of the state.
Shamsher Singh Manhas said that it is important to showcase the culture and heritage of the state and University can play a catalytic role in this regard. He appreciated the efforts of the School in bringing together students in a competitive format to promote culture through tourism.
Earlier Professor Parikshat Singh Manhas, Director, SHTM in his welcome address said that the School through this youth oriented function attempts to bring together the creative talent of the students in promoting tourism.
Dr. Anil Gupta, Event Deputy Coordinator made an impressive presentation on career prospects in tourism & hospitality sector highlighting the different avenues the sector offers.
During the event a book on Sustainable Tourism Development edited by Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas, Dr. Anil Gupta, Dr Suvidha Khanna was also launched by the dignitaries.
The prize distribution for various competitive events was held wherein Isha Rani from JK Public School won the first prize in Expressions-a painting competition. Mayank Abrol from SHTM secured the first position in Your Travel Selfie – a selfie competition. The winners for Game of Plates – a fireless cooking competition were Akansha and Diksha from The Business School, University of Jammu. Vanshika Mahajan from SHTM secured the first position in Speak Your Mind- a slogan writing competition while Shivam Sharma, Swyam Duggal and Anmol Gupta from SPMR college of Commerce were the winners for Exploring the Unexplored-a Powerpoint presentation competition. Chal Chitra – short film competition was won by Himankshi Gupta, Ishita Sharma, Bhavya and Kamal Jandiyal.
Later, Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas, Director- School of Hospitality and Tourism Management was felicitated as the Executive member of Chef Association of five rivers.
Dr. Suvidha Khanna, Assistant Professor and Organizing Secretary conducted the proceedings of the function while Prof. Deepak Raj Gupta proposed the formal vote of thanks for the event.
