JAMMU: A three-day Theatre Festival jointly organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and Haryana Kala Parishad, Chandigarh, opened with a play ‘Gagan Damama Bajeo’ here at Abhinav Theate Jammu. Sanjeev Lakhanpal of Sarthak Sanskriti Sang was the Director of the Play.
Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof R.D Sharma was the chief guest, who also inaugurated the festival. Vice President, Advisor Haryana Kala Parishad, Sudesh Sharma, Additional Secretary of the Academy, Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn also shared the dice.
While speaking on the occasion, Sudesh Sharma, Vice President and Mahesh Joshi also spoke on the occasion.
Expressing his views on the festival started here on Saturday, Prof R.D Sharma appreciated the performance and said that the artists of the play very effectively portrayed the real independence for which Shaheed Bhagat Singh sacrificed his life. He said that such performances should repeatedly be staged focusing the young generation so that the youth of our country be educated about the great legends of the nation like Bhagat Singh. He said that such interstate events not only make the people aware about the literature being written in their respective state but also provide an opportunity to the people of respective states to have an interaction with one other. Such events are quite beneficial and Play an important role in the development of the stage.
Earlier delivering his welcome address, Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn highlighted the future plans of the Culture Academy for the promotion of art, culture and languages. He said that this three day Theatre Festival is being staged in Abhinav Theatre for Jammu people in general and the theatre groups in particular with a mission to make the Jammu Theatre aware about innovative ways and means being used on the stage in its presentation especially present time scenario.
Senior Drama Instructor of the Academy, Dr. Sudhir Mahajan conducted the proceedings of the event and also presented vote of thanks.
A large number of theatre lovers, intellectuals, citizens and artists were presents on the occasion. Tomorrow a play entitled ‘Kisse Parsai Ke’ Directed by Sudesh Sharma shall be presented at 6:00 PM.
