Terrorist killed in Baramulla; 3 security personnel including cop injured

Two hybrid ultras of LeT arrested in Sopore

Srinagar: An unidentified terrorist was killed and three security personnel including a cop were wounded in an encounter in Baramulla district on Saturday, police said.
The security forces had received information about presence of terrorists at Wanigam Bala in Kreeri area of the district, following which a cordon and search operation was launched there, a police official said.
He said the search operation turned into an encounter when terrorists opened firing on the security forces, who too retaliated with gunfire.
The official said the identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorist was being ascertained.
Meanwhile, Police along with security forces have arrested two hybrid terrorists, linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT at Sopore.
Arms and ammunition have been recovered from their possession.
According to a police spokesperson, a Jjint naka was established by Police along with Army (32RR) and CRPF (92Bn) at Hadipora Rafiabad in the jurisdiction of Police Station Dangiwacha. During checking, the joint party intercepted two suspicious persons, coming from Lorihama Link Road towards Haddipora, who on seeing joint naka party tried to escape from the spot but were tactfully apprehended.
During search, two pistols and two pistol magazines along with 11 live cartridges were recovered from their possession.
The arrested duo has been identified as Tariq Ahmad Wani, son of Late Bashir Ahmad Wani and Ishfaq Ahmad Wani, son of Ali Mohd Wani both residents of Old Airfield, Rangreth Srinagar.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested persons are hybrid terrorists of proscribed terrorist organisation LeT and were in constant search of an opportunity to carry out attacks on security forces and civilians.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 90/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Dangiwacha and further investigation is in progress.
