Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday claimed to have busted a joint module of Hizbul Mujahideen and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfits in Pulwama District with the arrest of two members who were involved in a grenade attack that left four civilians dead last year.
Suhail Majeed Bhat of Noorpora and Gulzar Ahmad Dar of Nagbal were arrested after “painstaking efforts” following the grenade attack in Tral Bus Stand that claimed four lives and injured 23 on 5th December last year, a police spokesman said.
He said the duo were part of a joint module of Hizbul Mujahideen and JeM, and involved in timber smuggling, kidnapping and various militancy related cases in Awantipora and Tral areas of Pulwama District.
“During their questioning, they revealed that they were working for Adil Pathan (JeM commander) and Zakir of HM outfit and the grenade at Tral was lobbed by them at their behest to disturb the election process,” the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, security forces on Wednesday busted a militant hideout in Reasi District and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition.
Based on specific information about presence of a cache of arms and ammunition, troops of Rashtriya Rifles and police launched a joint operation and busted a militant hideout at Kundradhan in Chasana Tehsil of Reasi District today, a defence spokesman said.
The recoveries from the hideout yielded two AK-56 rifles along with two magazines, 82 rounds of 7.62 mm assault rifle, a radio set and one hand grenade, he said.
