Teenager’s murder triggers clashes in Basohli

KATHUA : A 14 years old boy was allegedly murdered by slitting his throat in district Kathua which triggered protests by the family members and their supporters.
The teenager identified as Karan Kumar son of Raj Kumar resident of Ward No 13, Basohli who went to play in the school ground of Government Higher Secondary School Basohli in the evening on Monday, did not reach back home. His family members and relatives conducted a search for the missing boy and finally recovered his body in the school bathroom late in the night. The locals shifted his body to police station and urged the police to arrest the criminals immediately.
Since no arrest was made by police till the next morning, the locals held a violent protest, blocked the road and resorted to burning of tyres and other infrastructure. There was complete bandh in Plasi, Nagrota, Bhoond, Phainter and Ramkote. No vehicles plied on Basohli – Billawar and Basohli – Kathua Road. The situation took an ugly shape resulting into police – public clashes in which sources said that some cops including SDPO Basohli Jagdev Singh, were injured and hospitalised.
Immediately on receipt of information ADDC Manmohan Singh, ADC Ravinder Kumar, Addl SP Kathua Khalil Ahmed Poswal rushed to Basohli to defuse the tension. Meanwhile the body of the boy was shifted to hospital and after postmortem; it was handed over to the family members. A case FIR 36/16 under section 302 RPC has been registered for investigation.
The DDC Kathua Romesh Kumar while talking to STATE TIMES said that two to three suspects have been detained and the investigation is on. He said that the situation is under control and the life has returned to normal.
Meanwhile locals resented that no political representative of Basohli or Kathua came to the area to take stock of the situation and mollify the aggrieved public.
