Team Jammu urges postponement of CUET-UG, allocation of local exam centres for Jammu students

JAMMU: Amid prevailing tensions along the India-Pakistan border, Team Jammu has strongly urged the National Testing Agency (NTA) to postpone the scheduled Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) and ensure that examination centres for students from Jammu are located within their respective or nearby districts.

Addressing media persons, Team Jammu Chairman Zorawar Singh Jamwal expressed deep concern over the anxiety and uncertainty students are facing due to the sensitive security situation. “The current circumstances have created a significant psychological burden on students, particularly those residing near the border areas. In light of this, it is both reasonable and necessary for the NTA to defer the CUET-UG examinations by a few days to prioritize student safety,” he said.
Team Jammu chief further criticized the allotment of examination centres outside the Union Territory, stating that such decisions add to the distress of students and their families. “It is highly unreasonable to expect students to travel to Punjab or other neighbouring states, not only due to safety concerns but also because of the financial and logistical strain it imposes on families. This concern is particularly acute for girl students and their guardians,” he added.
Highlighting the practical difficulties involved, he noted that many families are expected to undertake repeated travel within a short span due to multiple exam phases, often with limited notice about centre locations.
Recalling past instances, Zorawar Singh Jamwal pointed out that the NTA had previously postponed CUET-UG exams in Jammu and Kashmir and had taken steps to avoid assigning centres outside the region. “We urge the NTA to adopt a similar student-centric approach this time. The safety, convenience, and mental well-being of students must remain paramount in any decision regarding examination logistics,” he emphasized.
Team Jammu reiterated its demand that all CUET-UG aspirants from Jammu be accommodated in centres located within their respective or adjacent districts, and that the examination be deferred until conditions are more conducive.
