JAMMU: Senior Congress leader and former Deputy Chief Minister on Tuesday condemned Pakistan for heavy firing along the border from Samba to Poonch and killing innocent civilians. He paid tributes to martyred Jawans and civilians killed in the firing. Tara Chand was speaking in a function held at Pargwal to commemorate Capt. Gandharav Singh on his Death Anniversary.
He paid rich tributes to Capt. Gandharav Singh and described him a true patriot who served the Indian Army and after retirement served the society as a social worker. Reacting over the continuous border firing by the Pakistan, he said that since independence the border dwellers have been suffering. They were uprooted in 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars and after that they have been facing border migration every now and then.
He said that the demand of the border area people for 5 Marla plots at safer places is genuine but the incumbent government does not seem to be serious over the issue as nothing concrete has come to fore yet.
He demanded that Government should allot plots to the border residents at safer places and monetary help at the rate Rs.10 lakh to each family be provided for construction of shelters. He also demanded Rs. 10 lakh for each civilian casualty and Rs. 2 lakh to each injured in the firing besides adequate relief for the loss of crops and livestock in the firing.
