Tanker drivers hold protest over attacks

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Oil Tanker Drivers Association on Friday held demonstration over alleged attacks on drivers by the miscreants in Kashmir Valley. Hundreds of tanker drivers parked their oil tanker and began protest in Jammu.
They held demonstrations against the alleged attack on two drivers, who were thrashed by some miscreants in the Valley earlier.
Many tankers have been damaged in stone pelting and a number of its drivers injured ever since the outbreak of violence in Valley nearly one and a half month ago, they said.
They, however, demanded that the government should compensate them for the damage caused to tankers and injuries to their drivers, besides providing them security cover while making supplies in the Valley.
Meanwhile, a deputation of J and K Petrol Tank Driver Welfare Committee led by its President Ranjeet Singh Raina met Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Pawan Kotwal and apprised him about further attack on tank driver by the violent mob in Srinagar despite proper security assurance given by the administration.
The deputation comprised of prominent transporters Sanjay Mahajan of M/s Behari Lal Som Nath, Shashi Leekha of M/s Subash Road Lines, Davinder Singh, Manmohan Singh, Sohan Singh and Davinder Singh General Secretary.
