Take up hydel projects

Dear Editor,
On the Chenab and the Jhelum, we have the right to set up hydel projects. We have already constructed more than two such projects downstream, nearer to the border with Pakistan, on both the rivers. All new and under-construction hydel projects, such as Kishanganga and Ratle projects, are far on the upstream side of these rivers. These can in no way affect the flow of water to Pakistan, rather these will provide more water in lean periods. Any adverse or abrupt release of water will first damage our hydel projects. Hence the possibility of any hardship to Pakistan due to any new project on these rivers are nil. India should take up all such projects in hand at the earliest to tap the existing river resources.
