POONCH: The Social Welfare Department of Poonch in collaboration with the District Poonch Taekwondo Association, has launched a Taekwondo Championship for girls under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme.
This initiative, directed by Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Vikas Kundal, and supervised by District Social Welfare Officer Wakeel Ahmed Bhatt, commenced on Wednesday at the Poonch Taekwondo Academy, attracting over 100 female athletes from various Taekwondo clubs.
The opening ceremony was graced by the presence of Tehsildar Haveli Azhar Majeed as the Chief Guest, along with several dignitaries including Priyanka Singh, Centre Administrator of OSC and President of PDTA, Ashfaq Account Department of Social Welfare, Taranpreet Kour Specialist in Financial Literacy Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women Social Welfare Department, Noreen Akhter Gender Specialist Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women Social Welfare Department, Ajaz Rather Account Assistant Sankalp hub for Empowerment of Women Department of Social Welfare.
The chief guest interacted with the participants, offering best wishes and commending the Poonch District Taekwondo Association for providing an excellent platform for girls.
Priyanka Singh welcomed the gathering, while Rajinder Singh, Taekwondo Coach from the Department of Youth Services and Sports, highlighted the achievements of Poonch’s Taekwondo players at both the UT and national levels.
He expressed gratitude to the district administration and the Social Welfare Department for organizing this significant event in honor of International Day of the Girl Child.
The matches are being conducted under the technical supervision of experienced coaches and referees, including Rajinder Singh, Akarshit Sudan, Toseef Tahir, Vishnu Raina, Irfan Ahmed, and Vanshika Sharma, all of whom have notable accolades in the sport.

Silver Medalists: Mariam Nissa, Rukhsar Fatima, Tasleem Kouser, Insha Imran, Ameena Kouser.
The championship promises to be an exciting three-day event, showcasing the talent and spirit of young female athletes in Poonch.
