Swashbuckling Khajuria slams unbeaten ton as J&K ends day-1 at 264/5

SRINAGAR: Swashbuckling Shubham Khajuria showed stellar grit and tenacity to notch up a masterclass century and help Jammu and Kashmir end day-1 of the Ranji Trophy opener at 264/5 against Ruturaj Gaikwad led formidable Maharashtra at SK Stadium here today.
He finished the day on 130 not out and will resume tomorrow with every intention of scoring a double ton and power Jammu and Kashmir to a big total.
Earlier, put into bat, Jammu and Kashmir lost an early wicket in the shape of opener Abhinav Puri (00), however, another opening batsman and experienced campaigner Shubham Khajuria and Shubham Singh Pundir consolidated the innings and took the score to 77/2 in 19.3 overs before Pundir’s dismissal at his individual score of 37 off 49 balls with 7 boundaries.
Khajuria continued the brilliance and made another good partnership of 84 runs with his skipper Paras Dogra (30) before retiring hurt at his individual score of 94 runs.

Coming back from the break after retiring hurt, Khajuria showed solidity, sublimity elegance and brilliance to remain unbeaten on 130 runs, studded with 18 delectable boundaries and 2 massive sixes. Abdul Samad (23), Sahil Lotra (18) and Shivansh Sharma (18*) were the other scorers.
HA walung took 2 wickets for Maharashtra, while RN Gurbani, MG Choudhary and Arshin Kulkarni claimed one wicket each.
Member-Administration JKCA Brig Anil Gupta appreciated the efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir team for starting the season in style.
He also lavished praise on Shubham Khajuria for his wonderful knock.
